Fawziyyah Ahmed

Hello! My name is Fawziyyah Ahmed and your current VP Wellbeing and Diversity. I am rerunning to be your VP Wellbeing and Diversity.

This past year has undoubtedly been a challenging year for all of us. We have seen the power in our voices and in our diversity, with this power we can make the change we want in our University. As a current officer, I have had the pleasure of representing you, I have gained relevant experience and built key relationships with staff that will enable me to represent you better. I understand the way the union and university is run.

I have worked, and will continue to work tirelessly towards achieving my election goals with students at the heart of what I do. Moving forward, I will work towards ensuring that all aspects of Wellbeing of all students remains a top priority for the University with Liberation at the heart of everything.

If I am re-elected, I intend to:

  • Call for better wellbeing provisions, including more resources for counselling and mental health training for staff so students feel secure and supported. Work to improve the mental health stigma and accessibility by providing platforms such as forums and roundtables for students to discuss what solutions they would like to see in the university.
  • Campaign for better accommodation and raise awareness of student’s rights in halls and private housing. I will launch a housing enquiry to understand issues faced by students, with the feedback, I will engage with housing agencies to tackle these issues.
  • Empower under-represented groups by running campaigns that make students feel celebrated and allied with the aim of creating awareness of prejudice and decolonization of campus culture. I intend to achieve this by ensuring student engagement is at the heart of discussions relating to Equality and Diversity.
