As a first-generation immigrant being authentic and upholding my identity is incredibly important to me. I understand the significance of diversity, inclusion and one’s wellbeing in a community and how pivotal it is in order for it to thrive.
Therefore, if you vote for me as the vice president of Wellbeing and Diversity, I will dedicate my time to ensure that students experience a positive university life regardless of who they are as an individual and that they get the support that they need.
Here are a few of my many goals:
- I will enhance the relevant signposting available for support and advice regarding housing within the university and external organisations (e.g., Shelter and Citizen’s Advice) so students can access the help and guidance they need in terms of housing and tenancy agreements.
- Throughout the academic year, organise networking and social events aimed at mature students that takes place at convenient times in order to improve inclusivity and support the integration of all students irrespective of age.
- I will be organising campaigns to raise awareness of class culture, destigmatising the apprehensions/conservations around money and work to ensure the university experience is accessible regardless of socio-economic backgrounds.
- I will liaise with the relevant societies to celebrate and raise awareness of culturally important days, and international festivals campus wide to improve the representation of international students.
- I will lobby with the University Catering Services Plymouth to make more halal and kosher friendly food items readily available throughout the campus.
- By bringing more awareness to the University’s Widening Participation strategy, I will campaign for the University to ring-fence funds for estranged students and care leavers, and for the criteria to be more inclusive for all students.
FOR SUCCESS, VOTE THE BEST!
