Hi I'm James and I'm running to be UPSU President. For the last two years I have served as Chair of the Accountability Board, the body within UPSU that holds elected officers to account and working for wider transparency in the SU. If elected President these will be my priorities:
Safe as Houses: A campaign to educate students on their rights as tenants, on what to look for in contracts, what to look for on house tours in addition to how to settle any disputes with housemates. This campaign is here to help students to be able to rest easy knowing what to do if things go wrong.
Out of the Hive: Many students unfortunately do not know who their sabbatical officers are. That has to change. I will ensure that all of the Sabbatical Officers take time out of their week to leave the Hive and speak with students directly. I will also have the Sabbatical Officers record a monthly update video so students can hear what their officers have been doing and how they have been progressing their manifesto points.
National Campaign and Event Fund: I want to take some of the money previously used to affliate to NUS and ringfence it into a fund. No student should have to face a financial burden in making their voice heard. The fund will be spilt into two parts with 50% for Liberation Groups and the other 50% for use by any student on any issue.
