My manifesto for the role of Part Time Welfare Officer centres around the wellbeing and empowerment of students across campus.
I would focus on a holistic approach toward students, focusing on not only physical health, but significantly mental health, as well as social wellbeing. I want to work with the sabbatical officers to further make UPSU an atmosphere of comfort, support and happiness, where all students know where to go – another home from home. A place where everyone knows who they can talk to throughout their university careers, particularly during the most difficult times. Additionally, I want to continue to help ensure that the SU is a safe space for all, ensuring that everyone feels safe within the SU, especially during events – such as club nights – everyone should feel safe and comfortable to enjoy themselves within the SU and thus I want to work with UPSU to continue building upon the policies already in place.
In addition, I want to work with the VP of Welfare and Diversity and other sabbatical officers, as well as societies and students to strengthen the minority voice (BAME, LGBTQ+, Disabled students and Women). To work together to create an inclusive community with an open culture of wellbeing. A place where not a single individual feels that their voice is lost within UPSU.
I would love to work to help with campaigns and events to empower students to support each other, as well as themselves; ensuring that no student feels alone or overwhelmed. Whether that be helping set up talks with alumni for advice especially regarding the most difficult times of university; or helping with campaigns to ensure that all services UPSU has to offer are made clear across the campus.
Additionally, I want to work with UPSU to further environmental sustainability and awareness throughout the SU.
Thank you very much for your time, and I strive to be an asset to UPSU as your Part Time Welfare Officer.
