After having been the school representative for SoGEES last year, I would like to continue with the work I started last year, in ensuring the school and university is a place you're proud to study at and ensuring that you get the best resources and the best experience.
This year, I would aim to further improve the resources such as the availability of books in the library for all courses, as well as enforcing the requirement for e-textbooks throughout all years. By improving the availability and accessibility of books, I feel us students would have a much better access to knowledge vital to our degrees. I would also aim to ensure an optimum use of the DLE, ensuring all lectures are recorded as they should be, and encouraging lecturers to add resources where Panopto has failed, allowing students to have access to the critical information for revision.
Additionally, I will work with academics to ensure a better communication link between academics and students. Last year, a common issue brought up was the lack or the poor communication between students and academics. Although this is not a massively wide-spread issue, I feel that by tackling the problem, it would allow for much more effective communication throughout the school.
Finally, I would aim to improve links between student representatives, and the school rep and TLQ academics. Students obviously play the key role in a university, so ensuring our voices are heard is key. By improving the network between student representatives and school rep through regular meetings, it would be possible for me to ensure I am up to date on any issues you as a cohort are expressing, and would, therefore, be able to ensure I can represent you effectively at meetings and at the student union.
