As a third year studying medicine I feel as though I have become accustomed to the way the Faculty of Medicine works. Because of this I recognise there are many ways the student experience could be improved. The school has from day one put a strong emphasis on the importance of feedback and I want to continue this as the school representative by improving the ways in which feedback is generated and delivered to the school.
In recent months many students have felt disillusioned as to their importance in the schools community due to various disagreements and I want to help bridge the gap. I genuinely feel as though more open communication between students and faculty could have prevented recent unrest and so its development is one of my essential goals.
In the past efforts to improve this by expanding social media presence have seemed a good idea but in practice the various online surveys merely get circulated only just to get ignored. I and many others are guilty of seeing these surveys and although wanting to make comments I don’t because it adds another task to an already busy day. I would put more of an emphasis on making the task of giving feedback as easy as possible by potentially circulating forms at lectures and tutorials etc. Furthermore I would try to make the whole process more rewarding and transparent by proving how individual feedback has been taken on board potentially with a notice board at JBB and PSQ.
I’ve gained valuable skills from being a part of Medoc’s committee in organisation and teamwork and would love the opportunity to bring these attributes to the role of the school’s representative.
