Hi, I’m Laura and I’m a second year International Relations student and I’m running to be your VP communities. I am passionate about making all of our experiences here at Plymouth rewarding through celebrating each others culture and diversity. I have recently returned from a semester abroad and would love to replicate my fantastic experience back to Plymouth.
Mature students deserve better representation in our university and often need additional support for families. I aim to work with the university to become more inclusive to their needs by holding coffee mornings and working together to identify common challenges mature students face.
I would also like to hold workshops to recap academic skills for mature students who have taken a break from education.
I will also provide international students with information and representation, and I aim to create a more diverse environment to help excel their education and future.
I would like to create more safe spaces for international students such as, language sessions for international students so they can converse with other students regardless if they are a novice, or its their home language!
I would also like to create information sessions about Brexit so international and exchange students are aware of their rights.
I will also inform students, particularly first years, of their rights regarding housing as there is often pressure to sign contracts quickly.
Finally, I will continue to support and encourage the fantastic work students do for the community, including the work of the Green Team and other charitable organisations.
