CAITLIN BRAWN

My name is Caitlin Brawn, I am a third year English and Creative writing student. I work part - time at Annabel's Cabaret and Discotheque on the Barbican and in the Writing Cafe in Babbage, so you may have seen me around!

Mental health

I would like to raise awareness that mental health is an invisible disability that effects one in four people in everyday life.

I will:

- Promote available services, resources and facilities, both inside and outside of the university.

- Liaise with our VP Welfare and Welfare Forum, aswell as Student Minds, to raise awareness and reduce stigma.

- Lobby for tutors to get better pastoral training.

Accessibility

Plymouth University is pretty good at accessibility, but things could be better.

I will:

- Fight for more flexibility with regards to extenuating circumstances.

- Lobby for more support groups and services within the SU for people with disabilities.

- Campaign for the needs of disabled people to be considered when the university or SU are looking at renovations or investing in new buildings.

- Ensure disabled students are encouraged to participate in sports and activities, and adequate support for them to do so.

DSA and funding

DSA cuts have made things difficult for disabled students across the country.

I will:

- Lobby the university to ensure that disabled students are still getting support they need to have a fulfiling time here.

- Work with the university services like Disability Assist to try and make sure students know how the university can support them.

- Sign post other places students might be able to get funding.

-Work with UPSU advice to ensure they know how best to support and advice disabled students.
