Charlie Atkinson

Humanities & Performing Arts

Manifesto

Hello! My name is Charlie Atkinson, and I am running for the role of School Representative for the School of Humanities and Performing Arts.

I am currently studying MA Archival Practice, having graduated last year from BA History with Politics, which I also studied here at Plymouth University. During my third year of my Undergraduate Degree, I was a member of the Writing Mentor team at the Writing Café and I am currently the Course Rep for the Full-Time students in Archival Practice.

Now, more than ever, I believe that it is important that we have an active and confident School Rep. To this end, I am running on the back of two main points:

1. The first point is to focus on ensuring that members of the school have the ability and opportunity to have their voice heard and issues raised. To try and achieve this, I will be trying to open up new ways for communication between students, myself and lecturers. To this end, one method which I would like to implement would be a weekly Zoom meeting which would allow for students to share issues that they are experiencing. Similarly, due to the fact that being a university student during a pandemic can be very isolating, I would also like to give students the opportunity to reach out and have some for of contact with other school members.

2. The second point is to support students with a push towards a safety net with greater protections for students. To this end, I will be aiming to gather views and opinions from students, to support the wider efforts being undertaken by the Students Union.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto, and if you have any further questions, feel free to email me at Charlie.atkinson@students.plymouth.ac.uk!
