On Thursday 24th October the SU and the University hosted the first ever OurTable event in the SU. The evening event was a community dinner project with 35 students and staff in attendance, with the aim to bring our diverse communities together over a shared meal.

Throughout the year, all staff and students from across the University will be invited to bring a dish for sharing which best represents them or their community. We will sit down together around one table and share our food and our stories. OurTable is an opportunity to taste different cultures and connect with each other; make new friends, discover new tastes and build a welcoming atmosphere for all.

UPSU President, Tilda Fraser said:

"Hosting the OurTable event at the Students' Union was a special moment, bringing together students and staff in the heart of our campus. Sitting round a table and sharing food can turn strangers into friends, open your eyes to other cultures, and make University feel like home. I encourage any student to come share their favorite dish and join me at the next OurTable event, you are all welcome"

University of Plymouth Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, Andrew Grace said:

“What an incredible evening. At OurTable we aimed to bring together staff, students and the local community together over a shared love of amazing food and we succeeded! Last night Persian, Bulgarian, Israeli, Palestinian, Nigerian and many more different cultures came together to talk, laugh and eat together and we are so proud to have been part of launching this new community-dining project with UPSU. Good food connects people better than anything else can and nourishes the soul as much as the body; the concept of OurTable is simple and all you have to do is pick a date, bring a dish and eat! We are so excited to see how this project will grow and continue connecting people and we hope we can welcome you to OurTable in December!”
