This month marks the launch of our new "Fundraiser of the Month" Campaign. We want to celebrate and share the amazing stories of the fundraising events and activities you have been organising and getting involved with whether that be as part of a Sports Club, Society, student group or as an individual fundraiser!
This Month we want to celebrate University of Plymouth Ladies Hockey Team who have raised a phenomenal £1,250 for their nominated charity the Alzheimers Society with their innovative fundraising idea of creating bespoke club stash designed specifically with the charity colours and logos. We asked their charity secretary Tori Adams to provide us with more detail on their fundraiser and this is what she told us:
I put the idea to the club at the start of the year, to raise money for just one charity instead of multiple throughout the year, which the club agreed! I then created a poll of some suggested charities, to which Alzheimer's Society came out on top! The girls all agreed it was something that affected everyone of us to the majority of us having grandparents or elderly family members that suffered from dementia. We initially ran the Plymouth 10k in October (2017), 22 girls from club ran (twice the amount from previous years) and we raised a total of £1,250 for the alzheimers society. Along with bake sales and raising our walkabout tickets one wednesday night, we managed to raised a further £120 before christmas for the society. Around christmas time, I came up with the idea of theses jumpers. Knowing that every sports club, especially my girls, love their stash, i decided to head down to fitness for sport and draw up a design. The blue colour was chosen to it matched the alzheimers logo/colours! We make £4.25 off each jumper and have raised £170 for the society so far from them! Now we have almost 40 girls walking around plymouth with the alzheimers and UPLHC logo's, what better free advertisement! We have already hit our target for both money raised and volunteers hours logged for GOLD ICONS and We have a SU quiz planned for more fundraising as well as running the plymouth half marathon in may, both in aid of the alzheimers society!
