I would like the opportunity to be re-elected as UPSU Part-Time LGBT+ Officer, as I am very passionate about LGBT+ issues both within the University and nationally. Last year I worked very closely with the LGBT+ Forum members and the LGBT+ Society’s committee to organise campaigns as well as prepare and present motions at Union Council, both of which passed. The first motion presented was for more Gender-Neutral Toilets and better signposting for them in the Students Union. The second was to reduce Dead-naming and Misgendering across University databases and student interaction. In addition, it is now the third year that I have been heavily involved in the LGBT+ Society, currently being the President of the Society and previously having helped with socials, campaigns and events.
I believe it is important for all students who identify as part of the LGBT+ community to have a voice in the Students Union, to be able to talk openly about any issues that may arise, and have confidence that these issues will be brought to the attention of Union Council, and where appropriate, to the attention of University Staff.
As Part-Time Officer for the LGBT+ Forum, I would hold monthly meetings to discuss any aforementioned issues, assist students with any problems they may be having, and bring any motions to the UC (Union Council) that we as a Forum would like to progress. I would also liaise with students and work with UPSU to provide LGBT+ campaigns and events as directed by student need of the LGBT+ Forum.
I look forward to the opportunity to be re-elected as Part-Time LGBT+ Officer and to be able to continue to put my passion about LGBT+ issues across more directly, in conjunction with the student voices of the LGBT+ Forum.
