Your SU Advice team offer a free, confidential and entirely independent service to all University of Plymouth Students.
When you decide to sign up for accommodation this is up to you, but our aim is to make sure that you have all the information, support and guidance you need to make an informed and balanced decision.
We offer a free tenancy agreement checking service
Are you looking for your next student home and need a bit of help with the agreement before signing? We can help you with checking the small print. If you would like your agreement checked, before signing, please contact the Advice Centre.
It's essential that you stop and think before signing your tenancy contract as this is a legally binding document. If you change your mind down the line, your circumstances change, or you fall out of love with your new house or housemates these are not legal reasons to terminate a contract that you've already signed.
Here are three questions to ask yourself before you make your final decision and sign up to accommodation:
- Have you viewed the accommodation? Don't just rent based on a picture on a website, particularly if it is not through a well-known agent
- Do you understand your tenancy agreement? Email a copy into the Advice Centre, we can check it and let you know if there are any unusual clauses
- If you are paying a deposit, which scheme is it being paid into? If a landlord takes a deposit, then they are legally bound to place it into one of the 3 deposit schemes
