πŸƒπŸƒ Welcome to the University of Plymouth Athletics Club!! πŸƒπŸƒ

UPAC caters for all abilities, from competitive athletes to social runners. Our club has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and everyone is welcome!

We currently operate endurance and sprints training groups, and are excited to announce upcoming opportunities for field events, including a new long/triple jump group, as well as many fantastic competition opportunities to showcase our hard work and plenty of weekly socials throughout the academic year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch via Instagram. There will be a Whatsapp group set up further into first term to make sure nobody is left out of the loop. 

 

Track Training πŸƒ‍♀️

Two track taster sessions will be held after Fresher's Week on Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th September for anyone interested in trying out athletics or for those who are already members.

Our regular training sessions will then be as follows:

Wednesdays: 14:00 - 15:30 (meet at SU roof at 13:20, walk to Brickfields track at 13:30)

Fridays: evening - time TBC

 

Social Runs πŸƒπŸ»‍♂️‍➑️

These are very chatty and usually end up at a pub of some kind! Weekday social runs range from 5-15km and are an aerobic pace.

If you're worried about being a beginner or are just super speedy, we can assure you we still want you to come and give it a go! There are groups within the social run that have different paces and there is always something for everyone, and we want to help you take that initial jump into running whether you're brand new or seasoned. 

Tuesdays: 19:00 (meet at SU roof at 18:50)

Thursdays: 19:00 (meet at SU roof at 18:50)

Sundays: 10:00 (meet at SU roof at 09:50) - this tends to be a longer run around Saltram where we stop for coffee and cake midway through. 

 

Socials πŸ»πŸ•ΊπŸ₯š

We have socials every other week in the club with varying themes throughout Fresher’s Week, as well as sober socials such as pottery painting, mini golf, meals after training - even our own Taskmaster evening! This year, we want to focus on having bigger socials with links to other clubs and having a balance alongside academics and athletics, as well as a big SU quiz takeover.

At UPAC, we do enjoy a good night out as a club and have a partnership with Fishies, so show us your best moves on a Wednesday Sports night at Revs - we often go to Roundabout before Fishies for some cheeky discounted pints too!

UPAC have a formal meal at Christmas where everyone dresses to impress with prizes throughout (although none are serious). We pride ourselves on being an approachable and friendly club and have won most social club in the sports awards for our performances in intramural events.

 

Competitions & Events πŸŽ½πŸ‘Ÿ

For those interested in the more competitive side of our sport, our club offers facilitation of a variety of opportunities throughout the year to get yourself stuck into. Some of these include but are not limited to:

  • Weekly local parkrun in Central Park, Plymouth
  • Westward Cross Country League (October - March)
  • BUCS Cross Country Championships (February)
  • BUCS Indoor Athletics Championships (February)
  • BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships (May)
  • Run Plymouth events: 5k, 10k, Half Marathon (May), Acronyms Tamar 10k (October)

Memberships

Standard Membership (£45): Enables access to track training sessions twice a week and social runs.

Social Membership (£30): For those who would like to join social runs, but not track sessions or enter competitions.

Competitive Squad Membership (£65): Enables access to both track sessions, social runs and all competitions including BUCS.

Committee Membership (£25): For committee members only.
