UoP Climate Change Society

About UPSU Climate Change Society

The Climate Change Society brings together students within the University of Plymouth to enhance their understanding of environmental issues, encourage community action and empower a change of attitude amongst individuals. Our agenda is varied and open to everyone, regardless of what knowledge you have on climate change and other environmental concerns.

The society has a lot to offer its members. We organise numerous presentations by researchers, representatives from environmental groups and businesses. These cover a wide range of issues focussing on adaptations and solutions, not just the problems! Visits to places of interest are also planned as well as campaigns within the university, the surrounding community and at a national level.

Having just seen its first year in existence, the society has had a lot of success on which it hopes to build on. Talks from Transition Towns Totnes, The National Trust, Friends of the Earth and researchers such as Geoffrey Haggis (author of The Energy Challenge), were well received and stimulated interesting debates. The society also enjoyed a trip to see the comedy (with a hard hitting environmental message)“Invisible Bonfires”.and with the help of the Students Union, we managed to attend the international “Stop Climate Chaos” campaign in London, following a smaller rally on the same issue, here in Plymouth.

Membership of the society costs just £2 and lasts until the end of each academic year. As well as taking advantage of the above opportunities, members will also receive fortnightly e-mails keeping them up to date on environmental issues, events and campaigns, plus a 10% discount at Rapanui Clothing (www.rapanuiclothing.com).

To join you have to be a student at the University of Plymouth. Please e-mail David Musto at david.musto@students.plymouth.ac.uk to find out more and join in on the fun!
