Do you love to learn about the animals that share our world? Miss the pet you left at home when you came to university? Or just enjoy a fun trip to the zoo? Join the Zoological Society, where you can share your love for animals and the environment with hundreds of like-minded people. For those who want to get a little more hands-on, there are opportunities to volunteer at wildlife projects and help run fundraising events for conservation charities, both locally and internationally. The Zoological Society is growing fast, with a new dedicated committee who are striving to provide the best experience possible for all members, both new and returning. Don’t wait – get involved today!
We run nights out in Plymouth, with both drinking and non-drinking socials throughout the year- movie nights, pub quizzes and joint socials with other societies, to name a few. We also host guest lecturer talks on a variety of animal related topics. We are always open to suggestions for new things to do!
We run regular trips to local zoos, with discount entry for Society members. The trips can also include guided tours, talks and workshops on site at the zoo. For those who want to try their hand at volunteering, there are opportunities throughout the year at Dartmoor Zoo, Barn Owl Trust, Looe Monkey Sanctuary and more. We will also give members the opportunity to come on a big trip farther afield, with a discounted price for members – previous trips have included London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo, London’s Natural History Museum and Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Kent.
