UPSU strives to champion sustainability and environmentalism wherever possible. We asked our members to tell us how we could improve on-campus facilities and encourage recycling. The feedback will support UPSU in our Green Impact accreditation with NUS.

22 students took part in this short survey of five questions:

  • How important do you feel it is to lead an environmentally-friendly lifestyle?
  • What would encourage you to recycle more?
  • If there is anything else that would encourage you to recycle more, please tell us:
  • How do you feel about the amount of recycling facilities at University?
  • Is there anything else you would like to comment about environmental and sustainability topics at University of Plymouth?

UPSU worked with the UPSU Environmental Society (EnviroSoc) initially to help shape the questions.

We found that the majority of University of Plymouth students who completed this survey are environmentally conscious; all participants told us it was very important or moderately important to live sustainably.

  • Almost 9 out of 10 students thought it was very important to lead an environmentally-friendly lifestyle
  • Almost 8 out of 10 students felt that a standardised recycling scheme across campus would encourage them to recycle more
  • 7 out of 10 students would like to see more recycling bins around campus
  • Over half of students thought there were not enough recycling facilities on campus
