Urbanise is one event developed by Relays@UPSU in partnership with student volunteers, with the aim of engaging young people in a range of alternative sports and creative opportunities.  The event is held on the Plymouth University campus and is delivered through a programme of activities organised, and led, by student volunteers from sports clubs and societies.

Urbanise offers opportunities for young people to engage with University students, to talk informally about the extra-curricular activities they are involved with and about their studies at the University, all with the aim of raising the aspirations of these young people.

Student volunteers have the opportunity to develop skills in leadership, planning, managing young people, teaching, coaching, events planning and communication and much more!

The first Urbanise event to run this academic year took place on Thursday 12th October. The 46 school children, aged 10-11, from Widey Court Primary School, took part in activities lead by university student volunteers from; Plymouth 3D Design, SU:Radio from SU Media, Plymouth Disney Society, University of Plymouth Dodgeball Club & Tech Soc with Robot fight club , as well as t-shirt printing sessions lead by Student volunteers.

Mrs Jones from Widey Court: “Thank you so much for another wonderful event that has inspired the children and staff at Widey Court Primary once again. We had an amazing time and it was fantastic to have different experiences to last time, yet of equal value and purpose. I can't wait to hear the radio broadcast!”

A huge thank you to all the fantastic student volunteers who worked so hard to plan and deliver such engaging and inspirational sessions for these young people, whilst providing a positive experience and insight to the activities available at University.
