UPSU Society & Activity Award Winners 2017

On Friday 12th May VP Activities, Jess Vagg, along with the UPSU Societies team hosted the Society and Activity Awards 2017.

These awards celebrate all of the success, determination and achievements individuals and societies have made in the last academic year. Students can be nominated for consideration by any student or member of UPSU staff.

Best Newcomer

Awarded to a society that has formed within the current academic year and has met the needs of students, created a positive impact, and offered opportunities to students. The society has demonstrated potential and willingness for development next year, as well as sustaining the society.

Best Project

This will be awarded to a project which has run this academic year. It could be an ongoing project throughout the year, or a one-off project. The award takes into account the future of the project as well as its impact and opportunities.

Community Contribution Award

This award is for an individual or a society that has demonstrated a huge impact on the community throughout the year by volunteering with local communities and holding charitable events.

Society Charity Champion

This award is for the society that has made a significant contribution to a particular charity or charities over the year. The winning society will have not only fundraised money but also increased awareness and raised the profile of the chosen charity.

Give it a Go Champion

This award is for an individual or a society that has shown the most significant contribution to the GIAG programme of the current year, by holding regular sessions throughout the year or a one off event with a huge impact on the people engaged.

Outstanding One-Off Event

This award is aimed at any outstanding event a society has had throughout this academic year. The award will be based on the success, publicity, meaning and impact for those involved.

SU:Media Champion

This award will be given to a student that has shown incredible commitment, outstanding dedication and true passion for media throughout this academic year. They will have contributed unique and interesting material to one or more of the three different outlets (radio, TV and print) and shown enthusiasm to provide media within the student community.

Chair of the Year

This award is for an outstanding individual who has carried out and made a significant impact to the role of Chair/President throughout the year, and has done above and beyond what was required of the position.

Treasurer of the Year

This award is for an outstanding individual who has carried out and made a significant impact to the role of Treasurer throughout the year, and has done above and beyond what was expected of the role.

Secretary of the Year

This award is for an outstanding individual who has carried out and made a significant impact to the role of Secretary throughout the year, and has done above and beyond what was expected of the role.

Safety Officer of the Year

This award is for an outstanding individual who has carried out and made a significant impact to the role of Safety Officer throughout the year, and has done above and beyond what was expected of the role.

Outstanding Contribution

This will be awarded to an individual who has shown outstanding contributions to UPSU societies throughout their time at Plymouth University. These contributions may include dedication, ongoing commitment, a supportive and inclusive attitude and participating in wider UPSU activities.

Most Improved Society

This award will be given to a society who have demonstrated significant improvements for their members and increased society performance and engagement. The society will have demonstrated the following- team work, boosting engagement, professionally run society, introduction of new activities or events, or innovative ideas for society growth.

Society Person of the Year

This award goes to an individual who has shown an impressive commitment to their society and demonstrates enthusiasm, passion and contribution to their society throughout this academic year.

  • Overall Winner – Louis Fiander (MedSoc)

Society of the Year

This award is given to a society who have demonstrated this academic year that they are one of UPSU’s leading societies. They will have shown the following attributes: team work, outstanding achievement, professionally run society, great range of opportunities, seeked feedback and implemented change and large amounts of engagement with UPSU and other societies.

Full Colours

Full colours is awarded to students who have shown continued outstanding dedication or have made an exceptional contribution to their society, whilst also demonstrating commitment to the Students' Union and/or student societies.

Half Colours

Awarded to students for dedication, contribution and involvement within a society. Half colours can also be awarded to outstanding instructors, those going over and above what is required as a committee member or to a society member who has made a huge contribution to the society.
