Join UPSU and Fowlescombe Farm for a day in the South Devon Countryside looking into woodland management practices, in particular the technique of coppicing.

UPSU's Volunteering Department and Fowlescombe Farm are offering students the chance to attend a day long course providing an overview of woodland management techniques, with a particular focus on coppicing for nature conservation purposes. This will be of great interest to anyone looking to enter a career in countryside management or nature conservation. The course will cover the following:

  • Managing Woodland for timber production and wildlife.
  • Different coppicing schemes and techniques
  • Products of coppicing·

The session will be held on Saturday 5th November at Fowlescombe Farm near Ugborough at a cost of £10 each. This cost covers travel to and from the farm. On the day you will need to meet outside the Nancy Astor Sports Centre on campus at 9:00am. You will need to bring sturdy footwear (boots or wellingtons), clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty (which is also suitable for the weather of the day), lunch and a mug. We should be back at the University by 5pm.

To sign up to attend, simply bring your £10 (Cash Only) to the Volunteering Office within The Hive in The SU as soon as possible. Handing over the £10 fee is the only way to save yourself a space.
