Gig Rowing is the fastest growing sport in the South West. This brilliant three week course will take participants from beginners to competent rowers.
Gig rowing is an iconic South West sport originating in the 19th century and originally used for lifeboats. Now gig rowing is a popular South West sport, over 100 clubs around the globe compete in gig racing. 60 of these clubs are based in Devon and Cornwall!
Gig rowing is a brilliant way to explore the Plymouth area, keep fit and learn new skill. This course is aimed at people with no rowing expereince and will take participants to an ability in which they could join a local gig club or continue participating recreationally.
This course will be made up of 6 sessions over three weeks with sessions taking place on a Saturday and Wednesday afternoon.

What do you need to bring?
· Shoes you are happy to get wet
· Warm clothing for when you finish your sessions
· Sports clothing (leggings/shorts/tracksuit bottoms) to wear rowing - you will get the lower part of your legs wet
· Any personal medication
How do I book on to the course?
Click the ‘purchase ticket' tab. Follow the instructions and complete the form. Please ensure the details entered are correct as these will be used to contact you closer to the course and in the event that any changes take place.
How do I collect my water taxi tickets?
Once you have added and purchased your place on the course, you will need to print off your confirmation then bring it in to UPSU reception. You will then be given the water taxi tickets.
Water taxi tickets are your responsibility. If you lose or forget the tickets any further costs incurred will not be covered by UPSU.

How do I get there if I want to drive?
Please ensure you allow plenty of time for parking and traffic if driving. You will need to ensure you register your vehicle at reception upon arrival.

When would a session be cancelled?
All sessions are subject to weather conditions. If a session is unable to run due to weather, the session will be rescheduled for a later date. We will use your email or telephone number detailed on the register- PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS IS CORRECT
What could I do after completing the course?
Plymouth is full of rowing clubs. As part of the course you will be able to learn more about what the clubs offer and how you can get invovled!
