Fast, fun and wet. What more could you want? The only way to describe this game a combination of stand-up paddleboarding and lacrosse.

The only way to describe this fast, fun and energising game is a combination of stand-up paddleboarding and lacrosse.

Anyone with a very basic level of stand-up paddleboarding is able to take part.  As long as you can get onto a board safely and paddle across a pool you are ready to have a go!

This is a fun, semi-competitive tournament; teams are made up of three people, and games last 6 minutes. Depending on the number of entrants each team will play up to 4 matches.

Starboard SUP UK are providing full SUP Polo equipment include inflatable court and goals.

Don’t have any prior experience?  There is a stand-up paddleboard taster session taking place on the 19th February at the Lifecentre.

  • Entry is based on the first come, first served basis and there is a maximum of 8 teams.
  • The tournament will take place at Plymouth Lifecentre on Sunday 19th March from 7pm-9pm.
  • Cost: £9 per team
  • What to wear: Please wear a swimming costume; feel free to wear shorts and a rash vest/t-shirt in addition.

Please make sure of the following:
•    All players are fit to play and have no health issues that could be affected by participating.
•    All players respect one another before, during and after any sport that is played.
•    All players respect the decisions of the referee/organiser/member of staff.
•    Under no circumstances should bad language or violence be used.
•    All players pick up any rubbish that they have made and make sure the facility is left how they found it.
•    All players wear appropriate clothing.
•    Intramural league guidelines and rules can be found on the UPSU website

SUP Polo Rules:

  • Ball to be played with paddle only
  • No use of hands, feet or head to advance ball
  • Ball can only be played while standing, unless near the edge of the pool
  • Players must kneel when near edge of pool for safety reasons
  • No goalie in front of the goal allowed, all players must be paddling
  • No intentional contact with another player by striking paddles or boards
  • Players must maintain 1 metre distance when marking and intercepting another player.
     

Minor Fouls :

  • Use of hand or feet to block or advance ball – opposing team gets ball at point of foul
  • A player is positioned in front of goal without paddling and acting as a goalie – opposing team receives the ball
  • Kneeling while passing the ball or retrieving ball from the water while player is in the water – opposing team receives ball at point of foul
  • Holding ball in paddle for over 3 seconds

 

Major  fouls:

  • Intentionally charging another players board with your board – 1 min penalty
  • Using hands or feet or head to block goal from being scored – penalty shot from midfield
  • Player is standing in front of goal (blocking), without paddling, shot is taken and blocked – penalty shot from midfield
  • When penalty shots are taken, all players must be behind player taking shot at midfield
  • Any player receiving 3 penalties is disqualified. Team will play remainder of the game with only 2 players.

Referee’s decision is final
