UPSU Volunteering have teamed up with our charity partner the British Red Cross for a virtual Q & A session which offers you the the chance to find out more about volunteering with the British Red Cross.

Could you help the British Red Cross to support someone experiencing loneliness and social isolation?

Being or feeling alone can have a devastating impact on people’s health and wellbeing. Their volunteers can help people to gain confidence and reconnect to their community. 

Due to Coronavirus they are looking for volunteers that can support with welfare/befriending calls. This role can be flexible to fit around your studies and currently can be done from the comfort of your home.

Location: Plymouth and some surrounding areas

What would I be doing?   
You will be helping provide practical and emotional support to people. Every individual will need different support from us to help, below are some examples of what you might support with:

•    Practical support such as light shopping for someone who has been discharged from hospital
•    Reconnecting people someone with their communities to help overcome loneliness
•    Helping someone connect with other organisations who can offer them support with their long-term health condition

(Please note the main focus of the role at the moment is Welfare Calls to service users.)
