Responding to Environmental Challenges
Environmental Society (EnviroSoc) are delighted to announce the hosting of a live screening of the Burntwood Lecture.
The Burntwood Lecture is an annual evening lecture where IES invite an eminent environmental speaker to present on a current, critical and often controversial topic.
This year’s lecture will explore ‘The entropy problem and critical trade-offs’ presented by Professor Sir Ian Boyd. Considering Sir Ian’s recent departure from the Government after seven years as Chief Scientific Adviser it is anticipated that his lecture will provide an honest – possibly controversial – insight into environmental governance and provoke an interesting debate.
Within his lecture Sir Ian set out alternative visions of the future of the environment and how these will affect the health and wellbeing of people. He will examine three different discourses on the future, tackling difficult issues such as how to stem consumption, slow resource use, halt biodiversity loss and manage critical trade-offs.
At the end of the lecture there will be a Q&A session, remotely, we will be able to type our questions in the YouTube comment box right after the end of the talk.
