What I want to achieve
- Raise the profile of mature students within the university and promote participation
- Represent mature students throughout the university and improve communication for feedback
- Campaign for fresher’s week events that are more inclusive of mature students
- Develop and promote child-friendly events
- Propose a mentor system to pair new students with existing mature students on courses
Why should you vote for me?
As a mature student, I have experienced the challenges of studying in a youth-oriented environment. I am passionate about making mature students visible within the campus community and raising awareness of the skills we have to offer. I plan to provide a range of opportunities for you to feedback your experiences and issues, such as regular forums, social media contact and email surveys to identify new ideas and directions for mature student participation. I hope that if elected, I will be an effective advocate for more than 7,000 mature students; with 33 % of the university body classed as mature students, there is a real need to make your voices heard and your student life productive, integrated and enjoyable.
I have represented students on my course over the past year and I feel I have a good rapport with students, lecturers and the Student Union. My previous career in education has helped me to develop a keen sense of accountability and I am committed to identifying areas for improvement and campaigning for change where it is needed.
I am friendly and always happy to meet fellow students, so if you see me around campus, come and say hello! With your help, I will be able to raise the voice of mature students in Plymouth and create an inclusive community that will benefit everyone.
