Student Volunteering England Gold Awards
The Student Volunteering England Gold Awards are the only nationally recognised awards where students’ achievements are honoured by workers in community volunteering and their peers. The Gold Awards are there to support and recognise our most amazing students, up and down the country institutions will be allocating them prestigiously. As such, they are a prestigious mark of excellence in student volunteering.
From unsung heroes to those who have defied the odds, or shown remarkable leadership, each year, the Gold Awards reward a select band of special student volunteers. In particular they reward leadership, dedication and achievement.
This year UPSU had the pleasure in awarding 5 students the Awards and received the Student Volunteering Gold Award certificate in recognition of their hard work.
Leadership – Students who excel in leadership may have run their own volunteering project or taken a lead on a committee or other volunteering events. They will have been responsible for guiding other students as well as being a team player and volunteering themselves.

The Barbican Theatre played host to the annual Volunteer Awards which
Volunteering in UPSU saw another amazing year in 2009. Record numbers of students signed up and were involved in volunteering. 482 students accessed free training, ranging from child protection, safe tool handling, delivering an environmental project, to first aid. New projects and partnerships were formed; events such as the Fairtrade Fashion Show and the One World Week Tea Dance were huge successes; long-standing and fledgling projects went from strength to strength; and the Railway Projects that work to maintain and beautify rural branch line stations, won the Outstanding Project Award at the Higher Education Volunteering Awards. A pretty good year I think you would agree.
The Awards are designed to say an enormous thank you to all the volunteers and massive congratulations for all their dedication, hard-work, commitment, enthusiasm, and tea drinking. All the volunteers should be extremely proud. Thank you, you are fantastic!
