Welcome to Plymouth University Men's Basketball!
The Plymouth University Sharks are a student-run basketball club. We have three teams: The first team will compete against other university basketball teams in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Western 2A league and the second team will compete for the first time in the Plymouth and District Local League.
For the 1st team, there will be two practice sessions a week on Sundays and Mondays for 2 hours each. The 2nd team will have one practice session a week on Thursdays for 2 hours. The 3rd team will also have a 2 hour session once a week. There will also be an open session for the rest of the club on Sundays for 1 hour where members can come along for scrimmages at their leisure. Additionally, there will be ‘Give It A Go’ sessions which are commitment-free, open court, mixed-gender sessions once a week that allows people to play for fun with small games and competitions. We plan to hold 3v3 tournaments once a month for the entire club to encourage all members to participate in friendly competitions and to win prizes.
Fresher's Fair
Make sure you find us at the Sports Fair on Wednesday 20st of September where you can find out more information on the club and its membership, to register your interest, and ask any questions you have!
Socials
Revolution is this year's sponsor. This will be the location of our major social events, such as Freshers Welcome party, Halloween parties, and Christmas meals, as well as themed socials for the entire club throughout the year. The sponsorship code grants access to exclusive offers, discounts, and products redeemable at any Revolution bar. Other socials will be organised, such as watching Basketball games with pizza and beer, as well as sober socials where we will have outings such as mini golf or bowling. The club will look to organise socials every two weeks. Socials for the individual teams will be organised by their captains.
Events
BUCS games are always exciting and competitive, with top-level action at every fixture! Our home games take place right on campus in the Nancy Astor Sports Centre, where the fans sit right next to the court which creates a fantastic atmosphere!
In March... VARSITY!!! The Sharks have their annual showdown with Marjon in what promises to be the pinnacle of our basketball calendar!
As for the second team due to the increasing popularity of the local league around Plymouth, crowds are becoming larger by the game and the lights shine even more brightly. With every game being a dog fight, you will have to perform at your best every game, as the season ends the playoffs begin and it’s a race to the cup.
We will hold an All-Star game where two teams made up of players from the 1st and 2nd team as well as the rest of the club will play in a friendly, competitive game to celebrate the completion of the first half of the basketball season. Where we will crown an Allstar MVP.
Finally, we have our annual alumni game where the 1st team goes up against former Plymouth Sharks players, this game is organised to remember our history.
