Marrow Society Success Story for 2015

Find out the fantastic work Marrow society have been doing!

Societies

In September, We recruited 114 members at the volunteers and fresher’s fair, and held 2 training sessions to get them ready for recruiting donors at spit clinics. We also had our first social at Cuba, which involved dressing up Marrows and some other fun and games followed by a night out.

In October we had a social at Pan Asia restaurant which was very successful. We also held our first spit clinic of the year and a bake sale in the SU.

In November we had Hero Week where the committee dressed in Superhero costumes all week. We had 2 spit clinics and another bake sale. We ended the week with a Superhero themed bar crawl. 3 of our committee and one of our volunteers ran the Plymouth 10K for Marrow and we were mentioned in the Plymouth Herald.

In December we had a spit clinic with the Army Reserve in Derriford, where we gave a talk about Marrow/Anthony Nolan. We had a great opportunity to branch out into the community which was one of our aims this year. We also had a Xmas themed bucket shake in the city centre.

This coming term a few of our committee girls are doing Dry January to raise money. We also have a Spit Clinic on Monday 25th with Islamic society doing henna tattoos to raise money and a bake sale organised in February for Valentine's day. We are also organising our Valentine's slave auction.

This year, so far we have raised £1748 and have recruited 322 donors to the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow donor list.
