Brief
The 6-week course will see a structured but fun introduction to yachting, allowing each student to work with a qualified instructor to gain an insight into everything yachting has to offer! The course will predominantly be using the UPSU J80s.
The course will help you to explore Plymouth Sound, known locally as just The Sound.
Plymouth was the host for one of sailing's most prestigious competitions, the America's Cup in 2012. The event attracted thousands of international visitors and large crowds who came to watch the world's best sailors competing in the spectacular natural amphitheatre of Plymouth Sound.
At the end of your course you should feel confident and competent enough to go out sailing under the supervision of an RYA Instructor and to join the UPYC.
The University of Plymouth has 2 very strong and active clubs who operate out of Mount Batten, these clubs can help you continue developing your newly learnt skills and love for sailing:
UPSU Yacht Club http://upyc.upsu.plym.ac.uk/about/
UPSU Sail & Power http://www.upsu.com/sports/sportsclubs/6913/
The UPSU Yacht Club will be working closely with the students on this course and can help you to further your development after the course has finished. The club run regular cruising sessions on week days and weekends, as well as trips around the South Coast during weekends.
