The Summer Ball
Active for Life is a service which supports and promotes physical activity in adults with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities. The aim of Active for Life is to improve health and well being by helping people find something active they can do regularly and enjoy. Do you have:
- Experience of working with mental health/ learning disability clients would be preferred but is not essential.
- A passion for physical activity & getting people active
- An ability to enthuse & motivate people
- A dedicated volunteer who is willing to facilitate sports sessions and get as involved as possible on a regular basis!
If so, then this could be the project for you. Current services which are on offer include:
- Delivering a programme of regular weekly activities including Boccia, Walking, Football and hopefully Aquafit in the new year. Within this service there are opportunities available for volunteers to support these sessions; encouraging people to take part and assisting the coaches (4 – 6 volunteering opportunities).
- A 'Buddying' service, helping people to access activities in the local community
There are opportunities for volunteers to 'buddy' with service users to accompany them to the first few weeks/ sessions at a new club or activity to help them build confidence (4 – 6 volunteering opportunities).
- Taster courses enable service users to make a choice about activities they would like to try out in the local area. Active for Life support them to attend the sessions for 1 - 2 hours a week on the same day for 7 weeks. Activities could include the gym, dancing, nature walks etc. Taster courses will be starting at the end of January 2012.
A taster course volunteer would support participants to take part in activities & support Active for Life staff in delivering the sessions, whilst getting involved in the activities themselves! (2 – 4 volunteering opportunities)
If interested, then e-mail larissa@plymouthguild.org.uk for further details. A full induction will be provided after a CRB check has been undertaken.
