Hi Guys & Girls! Welcome to my candidate page. From here you can read a bit about me and what my plans for our SU are, as well as my full manifesto and a copy of one of my campaign posters which you might’ve seen around campus and in the SU building. I’ve been involved with UPSU: since early 2007 when I started pouring pints at our bar. I’ve volunteered as a fresher’s angel and helped set up and run societies. I’ve also been a Fresher’s Helper issuing NUS cards and have volunteered to record shows for the new UPSU: Radio station. So really, I’m not asking for you to vote for me so I can start serving students; I’m asking for you to vote for me so I can continue to serve students.
What am I going to do for you guys? In short, I’m going to keep you in the know. I’m going to make it easier to access all SU services and media. I’m going to make sure every single student at the University of Plymouth feels part of the action all the time.
So, how am I going to do this? Using my experience of the SU and Communications & Marketing from my degree, I will effectively communicate student union events, campaigns, activities and sporting successes to all 30,000 UoP students.
Why do I want to be your VP Activities and Comms? Because everyone’s passionate about something. For some, it’s their sport, their music, their mates, their society, for others it’s their studies, their family or even the Roundabout on a Tuesday night. The list goes on. For me, it’s every single University of Plymouth student. You guys make me tick. I’ve never before been in community of people who were so enthusiastic about their passions. I want to be the one who makes sure you can achieve all you can out of your time at university, because let’s face it, most of us only get to do it once!
Right, time for a recap of my life from day 1. I was born in Leytonstone in East London in December 1987 and grew up nearby in Woodford Green. I attended Trinity Catholic High School and on finishing my A Levels in 2006 I came to Plymouth to start my degree in International Business with French. In 2008 I moved to France and did an Erasmus placement year in Western Brittany. I returned to Plymouth in September 2009 to complete the final year of my degree. I’ve done a fair few jobs in my time, ranging from being a paperboy at the age of 12 to working at the deli in Sainsbury’s and I’m currently working as a supervisor at the bar in our Students’ union. Whilst I was in France I worked full time as an International Travel Coordinator for Alcatel-Lucent.
Vote me #1 for VP Activities and Comms and you won’t be disappointed.
