► CyberMentor & FutureYou training

CyberMentor and FutureYou Mentor training was held earlier in the year through UPSU. Sadly no more training sessions will be held this academic year but if you would like to find out more about each scheme, and sign-up your interest, then please follow the links below:

Senior CyberMentors - Aged 18-25

FutureYou Mentor

CyberMentors is a groundbreaking way of tackling online or "cyber" bullying from the charity Beatbullying. CyberMentors takes peer mentoring to another level, where students are trained to mentor young people online. Thousands of CyberMentors are being trained and tooled up to spread the cyber safe word. They are trained both on and off line to act as mentors and guides to other young people they meet online when chatting, surfing and just generally having fun.

Designed by young people for young people, the emphasis as always is on peer-to-peer support and assistance and not adults or authority figures policing the net, although strict child safety mechanisms are embedded in the process to ensure that inappropriate, bullying or predatory behaviour is safely reported.

FutureYou LifeMentors are trained adults who will play a key role in the support provided on FutureYou. LifeMentors will perform a senior mentoring role on FutureYou, providing online support not only to the users but also to FutureYou Mentors and Senior Mentors when appropriate. FutureYou LifeMentors have the opportunity to make a real difference, which has a significant and positive effect on the well-being, confidence, soft skills, life chances and aspirations of the mentors themselves and those being mentored. LifeMentors will be supported by FutureYou staff in the Volunteering Team, as well as the online counsellors and advisors.

All LifeMentors will receive a short informal telephone interview before being accepted for training. Full training is provided in mentoring skills and experience of mentoring is not a prerequisite for the role.
